Garmin has announced the expansion of its ECG app, now available to users in Switzerland and the United Kingdom. This move brings a key health-monitoring feature to a broader audience, allowing users to easily monitor their heart health through their Garmin smartwatches.
The ECG app enables users to perform a 30-second heart rhythm test directly from their wrist, providing immediate results. It also allows users to sync the readings with the Garmin Connect app for later access and sharing with healthcare providers. This functionality is powered by the sensors located on the back of compatible Garmin smartwatches.
Notably, the ECG feature is the first Garmin smartwatch function to be classified as a medical device in Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Garmin’s expansion follows in the footsteps of other major tech companies, such as Apple, which has introduced similar ECG capabilities in models like the Apple Watch Ultra 2 and Series 9.
Originally launched in 2023, Garmin’s ECG app is now available in 50 regions, including the United States, Singapore, and Australia. The company has expressed its intent to expand the feature further as it gains regulatory approvals in additional markets. Garmin also anticipates that future smartwatch models will include the ECG feature right from their launch.
The ECG app is compatible with a range of Garmin models, including the D2, Enduro 3, Epix Pro Gen 2, Fenix 7, Fenix 8, Quatix 7 Pro, Tactix 7, Tactix 8, Venu 2 Plus, Venu 3, and Venu 3S, with more devices expected to support the app in the future.
