Apple is preparing to revolutionize its wearable technology with the introduction of built-in cameras in future Apple Watch models, according to industry sources. The tech giant is reportedly developing these next-generation devices, which may launch as early as 2027, incorporating Visual Intelligence features that offer real-time AI-powered insights based on the wearer’s surroundings.
This move marks a significant leap in Apple’s broader strategy to integrate artificial intelligence into its product lineup. Drawing inspiration from the Visual Intelligence technology introduced on iPhones, which allows users to scan objects, landmarks, and even text for instant AI analysis, the Apple Watch is poised to bring this functionality to the wrist. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is exploring different camera configurations for various Apple Watch models. The standard Apple Watch Series may feature an under-display camera, similar to the front-facing cameras on many smartphones, while the Apple Watch Ultra could incorporate a side-mounted camera near the digital crown. This design would provide a more natural scanning position, enabling users to scan objects without awkward wrist movements.
The addition of cameras to the Apple Watch lineup is part of a larger push by Apple to incorporate AI into its wearable ecosystem. Alongside the upcoming watches, Apple is also rumored to be developing next-generation AirPods with built-in cameras.
